The wahine behind Farm to Keiki...
Tiana Kamen, MSN
(Masters of Science in Nutrition)
Tiana was born and raised on Kaua’i. She is an ‘āina-based educator, farm to school advocate and nutritionist. She uses food and nature as medicine to inspire people to adopt healthy lifestyles and take care of the Earth.
Tiana has been involved in the farm to school movement since 2009 and is a recognized leader of Farm to Early Childcare and Education in Hawai’i. She pioneered two farm to school programs, Farm to Keiki (a farm to preschool program) and the Kaua’i School Garden Network. Through this work, she became a founding member of both the Hawai’i Farm to School Hui and the National Farm to Preschool Subcommittee. In 2015 she was recognized by Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move Childcare” initiative for her leadership in the Farm to Early Childcare and Education movement.
Creating fun, educational and engaging experiences in nature is one of her many passions. Tiana has led over 2,500 keiki on field trips through Limahuli Garden and Preserve where she was the Education and Agriculture Specialist. The inspiration for many Farm to Keiki lessons are rooted in her experiences teaching ‘āina-based education and growing Hawaiian plants at Limahuli.
Tiana now practices as a holistic nutrition consultant on Kaua’i. She holds a Masters of Science in Nutrition (MSN) from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. In her private nutrition practice, Hawai’i Holistics, she teaches food as medicine classes, coaches individual clients and consults internationally to develop healthy products. She lives farm to table through and through and grows, cooks or forages much of her family’s food and medicines. And yes, her dog Pixie eats homemade, organic, locally-grown food too!
I'd love to hear from you!
